    TurboFire HIIT 25

do you ever work out so hard you can’t stop coughing after? what is that? trying to catch your breath still like 20 minutes later? whatever it is i love it. HIIT 25 is seriously one of the hardest workouts for me- not sure why… maybe all the jumps? i can’t even do them all [yet]! hopefully it’ll help me kick some ass on my 5k this weekend! let the race season begin!

(also please cross your fingers for me today… marathon lottery results come in!)

    productive little saturday

a couple days ago i realized that i had nothing to do all day saturday (aka today). this never happens. i mean i guess i had laundry and cleaning and stuff to do but no homework, no work work, no meeting for brunch, no appointments, no nothing. it was so nice! so i decided i’d sleep in have a lazy morning and then get busy. but no… i got busy first thing in the morning. up at 7:30, TurboFire (Fire 45 is seriously my favorite… best songs!), dishes, bank (to get quarters), mopped and cleaned the kitchen, set up my HDMI cable for my laptop (been putting this off since October- literally involved… plugging it in), and laundry. and it’s not even noon! next i tackle my living room and bedroom. it feels so stinking good to get so much done! now… these might seem like normal things for people to do. and if you clean every few weeks or shit every month this might not seem like a big deal. but for me who cleans every time i have a free day (which is never) this is a major feat. i’m hoping i can get in another workout this afternoon/evening before phone date w/my bestie and cards with some great friends. maybe i’ll even get some pre-reading done for school! (okay let’s not get crazy, terry…)

    80 push ups

so tonight i did five sets for a total of 80 push ups in the 100 push ups challenge. holy cow that was hard. definitely repeating week 3 next week. also rocked some fire 30 and x2 ab ripper.

also booked a trip for work to san diego. and a trip to san francisco for fun at the tail end of the work trip. and a trip to vegas for labor day. next weekend is new york. then camping. then DC.

have i mentioned recently how much i love my life and how grateful i am for everything i have? i have worked my ass off for most of it but i have definitely had the advantage of amazing parents and friends that have supported me through everything. and i can only hope to give back a fraction of the love i’ve gotten over the years.

now it’s time for a huge vegan pizza from dimo’s and some 90210.

so this morning i woke up and just wasn’t in the mood for the x factor workout i had planned on (yeah that excitement wore off fast) so i popped in some TurboFire and was loving every minute of it! Seriously a great way to start your day… like 60 seconds in and you’re glad you’re doing it. Unlike tomorrow morning when it’s going to be dark and freezing at 5:45 when we’re waiting to start our run… sigh. then i’m not so sure i’ll be glad i’m doing it. but i skipped last week so i HAVE to go this week.

then tonight to round out the cardio from this morning i rocked some p90x because that’s how i roll. and my friends were doing it and i always have to be one of the cool kids. p90xing with friends is seriously so much fun. trying to coordinate the side to side push ups is definitely entertaining. and thursday i’m pretty sure i’ll be unable to use my arms at all, so there’s that.

i was reading a chapter in “Thrive” today about the idea pre-workout snack (only if you need it) and good nutrition for the best recovery. I need to start following some of these tips if I want to be able to keep up these doubles and stay healthy!

    Happy Birthday Keanu!!
Today my boy KCR turned 47. 47 is the new 37 you know. i’ve been pretty solidly obsessed with keanu since i saw speed on new years eve 94/95. Which means I’ve had a crush on him for more of my life than I haven’t. Crazy! Good thing he’s still amazing.
In other news…
A little over a month to the half marathon… holla! I’ve been doing pretty awesome with my running training but the cross training days i tend to slack. yesterday i put the TurboFire disc in and everything! and then… just went to work early instead of working out. but i did pretty awesome with eating healthy all day… until the bears game. i budgeted for peanuts and 2 lite beers but then had a bunch of sweedish fish and vodka/hawaiian punch after the game. sonofa. oh well… today was a new day! annnd fail. but not terrible. i did run this afternoon in the sweltering heat so that was good. i can’t believe i skipped my morning run though- that was the first time since I started this that I actually almost missed a run. tomorrow should be an easy  5 miler. then next week we ramp back up to 10. woohoo!
have a great long weekend!

    Half Marathon Training: Day ??

slacker!! yeah… that’s me. the half marathon training is going stellar though! so at least i’m not (completely) slacking there! did my cross training workout from osceola, WI on friday morning (TurboFire HIIT 20) and did a nice bike ride saturday morning and did a 7 mile jog on Sunday. that’s the longest i’ve run… like ever. felt kind of awesome. got to run past farms and cows and horses and the dude who started Aveda’s house. it was pretty gorgeous. so that felt amazing! AND my headphones died around mile 2 so it was without music even. i don’t know how i survived it!

alas i got home from my amazing weekend with the beck family and went out for catch up drinks with one of my best friends and we ended up staying out til 1:30ish. bad idea bears! there was a 21st birthday going on there though so we were observing the youngins and their celebrations and reminiscing about when we were 21. sigh. needless to say i didn’t work out tuesday morning so i’m off my schedule by a day. yesterday i did a quick 3 mile jog, this morning i did a 40 minute bike ride, and tomorrow i’ll do my four mile jog. debating whether to do lake or streets. i think i might go north for once… i always go south.

in other news… if you haven’t already, ready the hunger games! you’ll thank me later.

now off to eat my zucchini and chik’n scalloppini breakfast and head to an awesome day at work!

I made meatless monday vegan kale pesto! with walnuts instead of pine nuts, which i didn’t let completely crush. so it had some chunks in it, which added a little texture to my pasta, which was nice.  The recipe is down below if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

So today is day 26 of half marathon training and i rocked out some TurboFire HIIT 20 followed by day 2 of the 100 pushups challenge. gotta get my upper body in there somehow!

in other news i got the new gardein beefless burgers on Sunday and ohmygosh they are AMAZING. i had one for breakfast yesterday on a rosemary ciabatta roll and it was spectacular. and yes… i had a burger for breakfast. stop judging me.

and now the kale vegan pesto recipe courtesy of Veggie Converter… i threw in some nutritional yeast to add a little cheesiness but it didn’t need it. it definitely tasted healthier than pesto but if you’re trying to get in kale nutrients that taste good (i’m not a fan of kale) then this is a great way to do it!

    Recipe
    Ingredients
1 bunch kale, ribbed and chopped
1 C walnuts (or pine nuts if you prefer)
    1/2 C olive oil
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    House seasoning (4 p kosher salt, 1 p black pepper, 1 p garlic powder)

    Directions
Put everything in the food processor and blend until it’s grainy mush, still a little chunky, but saucy. If you prefer more or less sauciness, adjust the amount of olive oil or you could even add some veggie stock. This recipe makes the raw pesto sauce. To serve, heat on your stove top (or microwave) and serve

    Half Marathon Training: Day 20

Today was a cross training day and I was supposed to do 35 minutes. Instead i did a 25 minute HIIT… close enough? sketchy. but it’s what sounded good to me this morning! it was my first time doing the TurboFire HIIT 25 and HOLY COW. that shit is bananas! i love the HIIT workouts… with insanity you get no breaks unless you take your own, which i KNOW is good to do and everyone does it, but still. i always feel like i’m cheating or not pushing hard enough when i take breaks. i know you’re supposed to but still. for some reason my brain just thinks like that. soooo the HIIT workouts you go hard (ke$ha style) and then you get your breaks. and probably burn a kajillion calories. [it’s a number people… i swear]]

annnyways. i’m supposed to have an off day saturday and a 5 mile jog on sunday but i am doing a 5k on saturday. so how do i get the extra 2 miles in? i’m thinking about jogging home from the 5k. then i’d get it in! but who knows how i’ll feel after. we’ll see… maybe i’ll just do 2 miles on sunday. i know it’s not the same as 5 at one time but it’s better than nothing, right?

my meals for this week are AMAZING and i wish they were prettier so i could post pix. alas they’re boring looking but awesome in reality. i made the meatout mondays cashew kissed potato salad and um… hi. awesome. then i made a zucchini salad (aka zucchini with seasonings and lemon juice). my afternoon snack is of course a protein shake (gotta get my chocolate fix!). and breakfast is the standard gardein chicken scalloppini with greens (this week is baby bok choy). dinners are varied as i am hanging out with two of my favorite preggers girls this week. hopefully keeping on this downward weight spiral… happy hump day!
