    don’t you hate when you forget to press start on your heart rate monitor? when you have this as one of your problems you know you’re doing ok!

    So today’s assignment for the Chalene 30 day challenge (yes i’m still doing it but sucking at blogging about it) is to (a) set a weekly reminder to write out your ten goals for the year and (b) write down your push goal and how it will enable many of your remaining goals.

    my #pushgoal is to pay off my credit card debt by the end of the year. those of you that know me well know this is something i have struggled with since college. when i was 19 or 20 i got a card with a $31,500 limit. and i would just keep opening more cards and transferring balances here and there until i had five or six cards at one time and most of them were near their limits (be it $31,500, $12,000, $10,000, or $5000- remember the economy was booming back then). i graduated from college, got a job, and then proceeded to continue charging up the cards because now i had money to pay the minimum payments! and i felt like the world owed me something for all the crap i went through at the end of college. bad idea bears!

    a few years ago when the minimum payment percent changed, the minimum on ONE of my cards went up to $1200. i make decent money but SHOOT. when that’s the minimum on one of five cards i’m not sure anyone outside the 1% could afford that and make any sort of dent! so i called a bankruptcy attorney and started freaking out about what that would actually mean about my future. I also called Chase to tell them i couldn’t make my payment and for the first time in almost ten years i was going to miss a payment (at least i was good at paying…). the person at Chase was my angel that set me on a path to paying off my debt. they put me in touch with their debt people and set me up on a plan where i had a fixed minimum payment for the balance, it would be gone in five years, and my rate would be locked at 2%. AND it would look like i just closed my card on my credit report. holla! so i did that with my two chase cards and have made a big dent in them. 

    then in 2011 i did the Chalene 30 day push challenge and wanted to start a savings account. as one of my daily tasks i did some research on saving money and paying off debt and found the snowball plan. and started following it. i built up a savings account for emergencies and started paying my lowest balance card first. now i’m down to three cards and hope to be done by the end of the year! I still pay about $1500/month to my cards but that’s OK because they’re shrinking! and while I’m going to need to put even more than that toward them to finish this year (I started close to $60k i think just a couple years ago so i’ve made great progress!) i know i can do it!

    once i get that debt gone i’ll be able to take the trip to australia i’ve been dreaming about since sixth grade. i’ll be able to visit all my friends and family without counting pennies. i’ll be able to do half marathons and tough mudders without stressing out about where the money will come from. and one day i’ll be able to leave my job (no time soon because, well, i LOVE my job) and go work for a non-profit helping animals. 

    it’s going to be a tough year of discipline and restraint (things i’m not too good at) but the payout will be a few weeks in australia, new zealand, and bali with my besties… i mean… what could be more worth it than that?

    30 day push day 9: creating habits!
so my to-do list will be made around 7am each day. it’s after i work out, shower, and make breakfast. i sit down at my computer (i make my todo list in evernote) and drink my breakfast smoothie and make my list. i do struggle making a to do list every day because i’m supposed to think of a couple things every day that help me reach my push goal- so do i put something like “don’t spend money” on my list? i have no idea. but i’m going to keep making my list of things i know i need to do.
one of the big things i’ve been doing that will help de-clutter my life and help save money is i’ve been unsubscribing to anything that is selling me something. all the groupons and youswoops and banana republics and express and all of those emails. i need to NOT spend money this year and those things, while saving me money on things that would cost more, make me want to spend money on things i didn’t even know i wanted! so unsubscribe away! and then i’ll have way less email too… which is obviously a good thing. 
in other news i’ve got workout ADD again… monday i did jillian michael’s 30 day shred, yesterday i went for a run in the morning and did jillian’s 6 week 6 pack at night, and this morning i did some les mills pump revolution. whatever gets me moving, right??

    30 day push: day 8

    Week 1 of the 30 day challenge is done! Time to really focus on my push goal: paying off my credit card debt. this will be incredibly hard. but really worthwhile. i’ve already budgeted to pay extra to my cards this year. including tax refund and bonus (if i get one)! i’m committing to going out less or at least spending less when i do go out and drinking less which will obviously save calories too! all good things. it’s going to be such a great year and i know i’m starting it right!

    30 day push: day 7

    this is one of my favorite days because you do a brain dump of EVERYTHING you need to do. like ever. the stuff for today as well as into the future. and to get all of that out of your head and on paper? it’s like a breath of fresh air. even though the list may be massive, just knowing what you have to do is so huge! i need to really get back into this habit of creating my daily to-do lists and what better day to start than a monday? 

    not sure how i feel about this five day work week… can we please have december again? thanks!

    30 day push day 5: today’s challenge is to identify a person besides yourself that will benefit the most from you achieving your goal. Also identify a person you look up to that you wouldn’t let down. my mom is both of these people to me… i have leaned on her financially so much over the 31 years of my life (i guess the first couple decades made sense…) and i know she struggles watching us struggle financially. i can’t wait to be able to be so financially stable that she never has to worry!
